Green Christmas

Since “going green” seems to be the in thing these days, try doing it this holiday season. Here are a few “green” tips:

1. Save a Tree

– Check your local community resources for ways to recycle your tree so it can be used as nutrient-rich mulch.
– Shop the sales for next year’s artificial tree-or make plans to purchase a living tree that you can re-plant outside.
– Send your holiday greetings via e-mail, or send post cards without envelopes.
– Put your used wrapping paper to work again as packaging material in the coming year.

2. Conserve Energy

– Choose smaller, more efficient low-watt bulbs to decorate.
– Remember to close the flue when you’re not using your fireplace this winter to save heat and keep your house cozy.
– Give compact fluorescent bulbs and ENERGY STAR products as thoughtful gifts for energy-conscious friends and family.

3. Party Like it’s 2999

– Use festive holiday ware instead of paper plates.
– Choose tasty party food with minimal packaging.
– Cut up your holiday wrapping and decorations to throw as confetti when the ball drops.
– Keep leftovers fresh in containers with lids instead of using disposable plastic bags.
