Market Your Home for Sale - Safely
Whether you are planning to sell your home by owner or by REALTOR, you really need to know how to make the process as safe as possible. Often times, the simplest of details can be overlooked by many sellers and their REALTORs. Something as simple as a family photo can lead to a safety hazard.
Some safety concerns I always discuss with my sellers are:
*Remove all personal effects like family photos; especially childrens photos.
*Do not leave fine jewelry or heirloom items at home during the listing period.
*Make sure that any weapons, like guns, are well hidden or out of the house completely.
*Keep your medication at work or in your car during the listing period.
—You never know who may be touring your house when you are not there. Although it isn’t pleasant to think about, safety should always come first.
*Do not advertise photos of kids rooms on listing flyers or on internet postings.
*Although they are growing in popularity, I discourage virtual tours.
*Remove any of the above mentioned items prior to taking marketing photos.
—In the internet age virtually everyone has access to your home if it is listed for sale. You never know who your home is being shown to or who could be scoping it out online. Virtual tours might allow an intruder to view the best ways of planning a break-in before even driving by the home. Most REALTORs should know how to take photos as to avoid such concerns as well.
If you have any concerns or safety questions, please do not hesitate to ask me!
